About Us
Birds Of Paradise Sanctuary & Rescue, Inc. is a Florida 501(c)3* non-profit organization. We are committed to providing care and a lifelong natural habitat for unwanted, abused, and neglected parrots from across the country. We provide parrots with a permanent sanctuary and the previous owners’ with the peace of mind that their former pets are being cared for in a nurturing environment.
With millions of baby parrots and exotic birds being produced by the pet trade each year, the population of captive birds continues to grow. As peoples' lives and priorities change, interests fade and the birds and the parrot owners get older, the overpopulation and sheer numbers of parrots in captivity is quickly becoming an epidemic and can have devastating consequences for the parrot species.
With their long life spans, it becomes a burden to even the most loyal parrot owners, with most parrots outliving their original caretakers. And many parrots often live in 7 to 10 different homes during their long life span of 40 to 90 years.
There are many reasons that parrots will lose their homes during their lifetimes, including family health problems, career changes, relocations and numerous other reasons. Recognizing all of these factors, we are determined to continue our efforts and mission of providing a beautiful habitat for these parrots to live out their lives in a safe, happy and free flight aviary.
We are dedicated to fostering compassion and responsibility for these birds through rescue, intervention, education, and outreach. Through the provision of large, free-flight aviaries, our organization provides a stable, safe environment in which parrots can live as they are meant to live. Birds of Paradise Sanctuary & Rescue, Inc. is a place where families can find enrichment, satisfaction, and purpose through giving parrots a forever home that provides their specific needs as well as enriching their lives with a natural habitat.
The mission of Birds of Paradise Sanctuary & Rescue, Inc. is to provide care, compassion, devotion, and a lifelong natural habitat for unwanted, abused, and neglected parrots. Offering them the freedom to interact with their own kind in large, free-flight aviaries and allow them the “freedom to fly.” The current primary goal of our organization is to obtain the financial means to establish a facility in Bradenton Florida, which will accommodate a large number of exotic birds and allow us to strengthen and expand our program. In support of our mission and primary goal, we have established the following specific objectives:
- Continue to build our membership base and volunteer base
- Construct aviaries and other necessary structures within six months to a year of obtaining required funding.
- Eliminate our waiting list by increasing our capacity
- Accommodate approximately 1,000 exotic birds
- Help with transportation services for owners who cannot personally bring their bird to our facility
- Educate our community and beyond regarding respect for parrots and the extensive responsibility of parrot ownership

ReplyDeleteHey, sorry it's late, but I just heard on SNN your having placement issues. I have 20 acres in Arcadia with 2 cabins and with huge wooden elevated decks, a natural Creek. Hog Run Creek, by Goat hill Cemetery right by the Peace River. There's an adjacent 22.45 which would connect all 42.45. I can take them all, and if someone is OK living there rent free I think this could be awesome. I've started a nursery for plants, shrubs, and a lot of trees. I'm sure we can work out something. I was elated when I heard as I've been kicking around ideas for about 2 years. My name is John, and now you have my email I'm sure. Have a great weekend.
